I couldn't help but posting this song, which I have been listening to a lot lately. The song was written by Rolando Alarcón, as part of his album Por Cuba y Vietnam
(1969). The song is an homage to Che Guevara and a promise that the workers of Latin America will continue on with his struggle. Alarcón was part of a musical and social collective called "La Nueva Canción" (The New Song
), which originated in Chile in the 60's with the first workers movements, and consolidated itself in the government of the Unidad Popular (Popular Unity
) of Salvador Allende.
The movement sought to bring about social change through culture, with politically aware lyrics and mixing activism with art.
This version is played by Chilean folk band Inti Illimani, who were also part of "La Nueva Canción".
Viva la revolución!
