TRUE: California has the nation’s highest poverty rate

California’s job and economic growth has outpaced much of the nation in recent years. That growth, however, has not eliminated one of the state’s biggest challenges: poverty. This week, State Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes called poverty California’s No. 1 priority during a forum of legislative leaders in Sacramento. Mayes, who represents parts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, claimed the state’s poverty rate is higher than any state in the nation when considering factors such as cost-of-living.

The Dark Cellars Project

a collaborative culture jamming project

Bild/Foto

The Dark Cellars are an expanding network of oppositional artists, graphic agitators, renegade marketers, and culture jammers more generally who are using art, design, and image to creatively subvert the structures of meaning which entrench consumer culture and carbon capitalism. By exploring a new aesthetics of existence, our defining objective is to open up imaginative and cultural space for new ways to live and be – for ourselves, for others, and for the sake of our fragile biosphere.

We create on this assumption: that before there can be any deep transformation in today’s dehumanising and grossly unsustainable modes of political economy, first there must be a prolonged and diverse aesthetic intervention that uns... mehr anzeigen

It's like most people don't think about the consequences when they use Microsoft Windows and Apple products, when they go to Walmart, when they don't boycott companies that lack social responsibility, when they vote for corrupt politicians, etc.

Of course we also have to take into account:
· The financial/banking system (based on debt slavery, compound interests, etc).
· Patents (that is, monopolies granted by the state so corporate predators can hijack technologies that otherwise could be used to produce new cheaper products, medicines... all over the world).
· Tax havens and loopholes.
· Corporate welfare.
· Corruption, insider trading, etc.

The development charity called for a new economic model to reverse an inequality trend that it said helped to explain Brexit and Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.

Oxfam blamed rising inequality on aggressive wage restraint, tax dodging and the squeezing of producers by companies, adding that businesses were too focused on delivering ever-higher returns to wealthy owners and top executives. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2017/jan/16/worlds-eight-richest-people-have-same-wealth-as-poorest-50 #inequality #poverty #wealth #plutocracy #corporatism #capitalism

Gender Equality and Dialogue in 2016’s Highest Grossing FilmsIn 2016, several new movie releases featured a lead female character. Does that indicate males and females now share equal roles and dialogue in films? To answer that question, I counted the number of words spoken by each character in 2016's Highest Grossing Films.--> https://proquestionasker.github.io/projects/MovieDialogueInteractive/

Und hier gibt es noch eine ganz informative Grafik zu Gender Inequality in Films from 2007-2012 (Quelle: https://www.nyfa.edu/film-school-blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Gender-Inequality-in-Film.jpg)
