Since 2005, little #girls can decide: Do I become a #hairdresser — or #chancellor? This Sunday, the sole ruler of Germany (Merkel) is confirmed in a so called democratic #election so that she can continue to govern.
Aisha’s former teammate Amaal began playing with the encouragement of a friend, a lively, well-liked girl named Faiza. One day, before a #game, al-Shabaab militants arrived at Faiza’s house. They took her to an empty lot and tortured her, cutting her body and face with shards of glass, shaved her head, and then left her to die. “It made me really scared for my life,” Amaal recalled. “You put your life in danger in this country because of the thing that you love.”#sports #HumanRights #Feminism #Problem #justice #torture #alShabaab #crime #news #death
In many cases, the outside developers and graphic designers they enlisted to help often took a condescending tone over #email. These collaborators, who were almost always male, were often short, slow to respond, and vaguely disrespectful in correspondence. In response to one request, a developer started an email with the words “Okay, girls…”#SiliconValley #Technology #problem #feminism #equality #news #economy #female #conversation #discrimination #respect
The question of why they’ve embarked on this crusade has a practical answer: No #movement can survive on #men alone. As one #female pundit recently wrote, the prospect of the alt-right attracting women “terrifies the left, and it should, because they know that once a threshold of female involvement is reached, there’s no going back.” The philosophical answer is more complex — as are the intellectual contortions women must perform to justify participating in a movement so hostile to their #freedom.#problem #feminism #news #altRight #fashism #fail #politics
“Throughout my childhood, I have been harassed and bullied, and I always wondered ‘why do we have to accept this violence, just because we are women?’,” she said in an interview with The Jordan Times on Monday....
To those accusing her of encouraging violence, Khalifeh responded: “You are lying if you say there is no violence in #society; there is and always will be. So, when you encounter violence, you should be able to defend yourself.”#feminism #women #humanrights #violence #MiddleEast #news #equality #defense #problem
Q: In what kind of moment, what kind of situation, was the photograph taken in which you are apparently doing your best to have a discussion with a fan of neo-Nazism? What were your feelings like at that moment?
A: That was at the first stopping point for the neo-Nazi men and women, near #Moravské Square. They gave some speeches there. The action we were attending had called on us to dance, play music, sing, so we did... We had banners and we chanted. I don't like to talk about this particular interaction, because I want to describe things as they actually happened, and at the time I did not suspect that I would be asked to recount it for thousands of people, so I don't remember it very specifically. The man in the photograph is talking with me and a friend of mine about borders, migrants, and the state. I did my best to explain to him that when lives are at stake, then borders and states cease to exist. I was not afraid there - if anyhing had happened to me, I would have gotten over it, but if I had decided to stay quiet, I would never have recovered from that. Naturally the situation was an experience, but direct contact with somebody of such a different opinion was not unpleasant for me.

"Women's councils exist in parallel at all levels, the commune, the district, the city, and the canton. The women's councils don't decide on general issues — that's what the people's councils are for. They discuss issues that are specifically about women ... They have veto power on issues concerning women."
If women create strong organizations, they can never be sent back to the kitchen. That included defense but also the economy. They can be independent only with an economic base. So in Rojava women’s cooperatives are being constructed everywhere.

The women on Twitch don’t see themselves as pornographers or #sex workers – far from it – but that doesn’t mean there aren’t #audience members who feel they are owed more than witty banter and good gameplay, particularly if they are handing over cash.
“The way some people treat you because you’re a woman on the internet is disgusting,” Kat says. “They think they can just give you money and expect certain things or just say something in chat and expect something – for you to take your clothes off and that sort of stuff. There are people who actually think that’s how it works.”
It’s no secret that porn is one of the primary drivers of technological innovation, but there are a striking number of structural similarities between Twitch and some forms of #online #pornography. And it is women who bear the brunt of the association.
“I had one of my friends make a joke about me being a cam girl and I got really, really offended about it,” says Mia. “Not because I think there’s anything wrong with [being a cam girl], but what I am doing is very different … Like, I have a legit career as a gamer and you can’t take me seriously as a #gamer? You see me on #camera and all of a sudden I’m a cam #girl?”
It was an email like many she had had before: a lecture from a stranger explaining why her views - in his eyes - were wrong, all delivered hiding behind the phrase "dear sister, I say these things with greatest certitude of your Islam".
