Wht happened to the French automobile drivers. From earlier trips to France I remember that their main idea about bicycle riders on the road was to kick them off. Not really a pleasure. Also crossing the street as pedestrian was not really nice. Zebra crossings seened to be a nice decoration, not more.
But that has dramatically changed. I mean, it still is not as in The Netherlands (but like that it is indeed only there), but changes are real.
Standing at a zebra crossing in #Aubagne
and a lorry driver stops, Out of his free will, no police to be seen around. Going on bike on a small road in the countryside. Cars drive slower in order not to endanger you by overtaking at the wrong place.
What did heppen? These are not my French fellow men which I know from the past.
Did aliens take over power in France (might well be, look at the tv news, there are some hints). Mass gene manipulations?
In any case I can really recommend to take the bike with you when travelling to France.
From Orange to Aubagne a former railway track has been converted to a bicycle track, absolutely fantastic. In autumn this will be continued to Carpentras where the old railway ended. I am sure in former years no French authority would have sincerly have thought about doing something like that.
